Memorial Cup
History
Memorial cup tournament is played to honor those who have passed on. Following the passing of Laban Opande’s Brother in 2018, he proposed to name the Memorial Cup an annual event in memory of his brother, The event would be observed each year as a Uhuru event and would be fully funded by the Opande Law Firm and any other well wishers.
The first tournament was played against Rwanda and the Uhuru team won the game 4-1; a convincing win. The winner was awarded a trophy with medals and the runner’s up were given medals only.
In 2019 the tournament was named the 2nd Annual Peter Opande Memorial Cup and was played on Sunday, May 26, 2019. There was 4 teams involved; Kenya 1, Kenya 2, Congo and Rwanda. Kenya 1 won the tournament taking the trophy and the winner medals.
Due to the Corona pandemic all tournaments in 2020 have been suspended until further notice. The earliest return date will most likely be the year 2021 with all tournaments expected to be played all year.

Memorial weekend
In the United States Memorial holiday is a federal holiday observed to remember the men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The holiday is usually observed on the last Monday of May each year.

In 1968 congress passed the Uniform Monday holiday Act, which established Memorial Day as the last Monday in May. the same Law declared memorial Day a federal Holiday.

As a tradition, cities and towns across the United States host Memorial Day parades each year.

Americans also observe Memorial day by visiting cemeteries and memorials.

Traditionally the flag of the United States is flown at half staff from dawn until noon.

Some people take weekend trips, throw parties and barbecues.

The long weekend from Saturday to Monday unofficially marks the beginning of summer.
